Rabbi Yoshiyahu Pinto published footage of a meeting he held the day before yesterday in New York with American rapper Kanye West, who changed his name to "Ye." According to the statement from the rabbi, who was convicted of bribery and served time in prison, West, who has expressed antisemitic sentiments on many occasions in the past, told him that he "expressed deep remorse for his words regarding the Jewish people." West also told the rabbi during the meeting: "I feel very blessed that I can sit here with you today and take responsibility. I have dealt with issues of bipolar disorder."

I feel really blessed to be able to sit here with you today and just take accountability. I was dealing with some various issues dealing with bipolar also, so it would take the ideas I had and take them to an extreme where I would forget about the protection of the people around me and myself. So I wanted to come and take accountability. Sometimes people aren't that knowledgeable about bipolar and what causes it and the way you act when you have this disease. It's like if you left the house and you left your kid at home and your kid messed up the kitchen, the garage, the living room – when you get back, it's your responsibility because that's your child. And that's the way I look at it – I have to clean up the kitchen, I have to clean up the living room, I have to clean up the garage. So I appreciate you embracing me with open arms and allowing me to make amends. This is the beginning, the first steps, brick by brick, to build back the strong walls. Judaism brought to the world a way for someone who regrets something he has done wrong to fix it. The Jews live by the belief that if someone did something wrong, he can regret and repair. And the rabbi is hugging you and hugging everybody. God will bring from now on strong things and good things. You are a very good man. Amen.
