On the massive 10-foot Urbano Monte World Map of 1587—the largest known early world map in existence-cartographers didn't just doodle monsters to fill blank spaces. Originally hand-drawn across 60 individual sheets in Milan, Italy, this unique cartography masterpiece features a North Polar azimuthal equidistant projection designed to rotate around a central pin like a Renaissance application. We dive directly into the historical logs and Spanish fleet records embedded in the atlas that detail chilling encounters with sentient, multi-tailed "Aquamen" and predatory sirens ruling the Southern Oceans.
