A ProPublica report exposed that Microsoft had been using China-based engineers to help manage U.S. Defense Department cloud systems. These engineers were supposedly monitored by “digital escorts,” but those escorts often lacked the technical expertise to even know what was happening.
After the revelations, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered a third-party audit of the program, along with an internal DoD probe into how this was allowed to happen.
